Youth Sermon: Waiting & Praying

Introduction

Today, we're going to focus on the last book of James. James, who was Jesus' half-brother and a pastor, wrote this letter to give some real-life advice to his church that was going through some tough times. We're going to talk about why waiting on God and praying with faith is so important.

Imagine you're playing a video game, and you're at a really hard level. You keep trying and trying, but you just can't beat it. You're frustrated and want to give up. But then, you decide to wait, practice, and learn more about the game. After some time, you try again, and this time, you beat the level! That's what waiting on God is like. It's not about doing nothing; it's about trusting God and preparing for what's next.

That's what waiting on God is like. It's not about doing nothing; it's about trusting God and preparing for what's next.

Patience and Prayer

James starts by telling us to be patient, like a farmer waiting for his crops to grow. Waiting isn't a sign of weakness; it's a sign of strength and trust in God. He gives examples of farmers and prophets who waited patiently, even when things were tough. He also talks about Job, who went through some really hard stuff but kept trusting God and was rewarded in the end.

While we're waiting, James says we should avoid complaining and swearing. Instead, we should pray. Whether we're having a bad day, a great day, or feeling sick, we should always turn to prayer. God wants us to be happy, pray, and be thankful all the time. The prayers of people who love God are powerful and can bring healing and forgiveness. Prayer is like a superpower that can change our lives and the world around us.

The Power of Prayer

James uses the story of Elijah to show us how powerful prayer can be. Elijah was just a regular guy, but he prayed hard for rain, and God answered his prayer. This shows us that prayer really does make a difference.

So, what does this all mean for us? Well, we all go through tough times, just like the early church did. But we have the power of prayer and the strength to wait on God. Let's be people who are known for our patience and our prayers. Let's trust God, even when it's hard, and let's pray, no matter what's going on in our lives.

Closing Prayer

God, help us to be patient and to pray with faith. Show us how to trust You, even when it's hard. Help us to be people who are known for our patience and our prayers. Thank you for always being with us. Amen.
