Summary: The first in a series of messages from 1 & 2 Timothy. "The Purpose Of The Church."

  Study Tools

Introduction: The contemporary christian group, Casting Crowns, has recently released a song, "If We Are The Body." It says in that song that if we are the body, why aren’t his hands reaching? I will admit, as a pastor, that it is very easy to get side tracked - especially when it comes to growth. We all want to grow churches. Every person who attends Trinity Baptist Church would love for it to grow beyond our seating capacity. With all that we do week after week in our worship and programs, we get a reminder from God’s Word what are supposed to be up to. It is the church’s purpose to:

MAKE DISCIPLES AND MATURE THE BELIEVERS

How do we do this?

1. THROUGH THE CHURCH’S MESSAGE (1:1-20)

a) A Message That Exposes False Doctrines And False Teachers (v1-7)

b) A Message That Exposes The Sin Of Lawless Men (v8-11)

c) A Message That Transforms Those Who Accept It (v9-14)

d) A Message That Brings Hope To All Sinners (v15-17)

e) A Message That Encourages Believers To Stand Firm (v18-20)

-------------------------------------------------------

2. THROUGH THE CHURCH’S WORSHIP (2:1-15)

a) A Worship That Is Centered On Christ Through Prayer (v1-8)

b) A Worship That Is Centered On Integrity (v9-10)

c) A Worship That Is Centered On Humility And Submission (v11-12)

d) A Worship That Is Centered On Restoration (v13-15)

-------------------------------------------------------

3. THROUGH THE CHURCH’S LEADERS (3:1-16)

a) Leaders Who Live A Life Of Integrity (v1-3,8-10)

b) Leaders Who Manage Their Family First (v4-5,11-12)

c) Leaders Who Have Been Faithful To God (v6)

d) Leaders Who Can Be Separate Yet Minister To The Lost (v7)

e) Leaders Who Can Set An Example In The Household Of God (v13-15)

f) Leaders Who Are Willing To Preach Christ And Him Raised (v16)

CONCLUSION: Are we doing what the church is purposed to do? Are you personally doing your part to complete the task at hand?
