WHAT DO YOU NEED?

John 6:1-13

Introduction: Today you are either in need, or will be in need in the days to come. Jesus shows us here in this passage that He is ready to meet humanities needs. As we study this passage let’s remember these 7 things about Jesus meeting our needs.

1. WHERE JESUS IS, THERE ARE MIRACLES (v.1-2)

Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far

shore of the Sea of Galilee(that is, the Sea of

Tiberias) 2. and a great crowd of people followed

Him because they saw the miraculous signs he had

performed on the sick. (NIV)

(a) JESUS IS STILL IN THE MIRACLE WORKING BUSINESS

(b) IF WE WANT TO SEE MIRACLES, WE HAVE TO GET

WHERE JESUS IS

---------------

2. JESUS DESIRES TO SPEND TIME WITH HIS PEOPLE (v.3)

Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down

with His disciples. (NIV)

(a) WE HAVE A TENDENCY TO THINK GOD IS TOO BUSY FOR

OUR PROBLEMS

(b) WE THINK OUR PROBLEMS ARE TOO SMALL FOR GOD

(c) GOD DESIRES TO SIT DOWN WITH US, GOOD TIMES OR

BAD

(d) OUR SITTING IS SIGNIFICANT

1. God is standing

2. God has control of the situation

3. We have to sit down and get our hands out

---------------

3. JESUS NOT ONLY KNOWS THE PROBLEM, HE KNOWS THE

SOLUTION (v.4-6)

The Jewish Passover Feast was near 5. When Jesus

looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him,

he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for

these people to eat?” he asked this only to test

him, for he already had in mind what he was going to

do. (NIV)

(a) OUR PROBLEMS DON’T TAKE GOD BY SURPRISE

(b) WHAT ROCKS OUR WORLD, GOD SAW COMING A MILE AWAY

(c) THE DIVINE CREATOR AND THE ONE WHO SUSTAINS CAN

HANDLE OUR NEEDS

---------------

4. JESUS CAN TAKE A LITTLE AND MAKE A LOT (v.7,9)

Philip answered him, “Eight months wages would not

buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!” -

v.9 “Here is a boy with five SMALL barley loaves

and two small fish, but how far will they go among

so many?” (NIV)

(a) GOD CAN EVEN TAKE A FEW LOAVES AND FISH

(b) GOD TOOK MOSES’ LITTLE STICK AND MADE IT A LOT

(c) GOD TOOK DAVID’S SMALL STONE AND KILLED A GIANT

(d) OUR SOCIETY TEACHES THE BIGGER THE BETTER, THAT

IS NOT NECESSARILY GOD’S WAY HE CAN USE LITTLE

THINGS AND PROVIDE BIG MIRACLES

---------------

5. WE HAVE TO DO OUR PART (v.9)

“Here is a boy with five SMALL barley loaves and two

small fish, but how far will they go among so

many?" (NIV)

(a) A LITTLE BOY GAVE ALL HE HAD

(b) JOHN 15:6 WE HAVE TO ABIDE OR WE CAN DO NOTHING

(c) WE HAVE TO TRUST ENOUGH TO GIVE JESUS THE FISH

---------------

6. DURING OUR TIMES OF NEED HE OFFERS US REST (v.10)

Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There

was plenty of grass in that place and the men sat

down, about five thousand of them. (NIV)

PASTURES

TIMES OF NEED

(REST ASSURED)

---------------

SAUCER (v.11-15)
