What Does Your Resume Say?

Prayer

Text: 1 Samuel 17:31 – 37 And when the words were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him. (32) And David said to Saul, let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine. (33) And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth. (34) And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: (35) And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. (36) Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living GOD. (37) David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

Purpose: Today, I want to testify to all that are facing circumstances that are larger than them; and remind you to think about what GOD has deliver you from. I want to tell the world I am able to overcome Through CHRIST JESUS!!!

Background:

a) Condition of Israel: The children of Israel were at war with the Philistine, but currently, they are at a standstill due to a challenge from one particular Philistine, the five-city champion of Palestine, Goliath of Gath.

b) The challenge: Be aware of that Palestine consisted of five ruling or principle cities: Ashdod, Ashkelon, Ekron, Gaza, and Gath; and every year each city sent their best warrior of their city to represent them in a fighting challenge. The rules of engagement are simply, the last fighter standing was the champion of the five principle cities and the city of the champion was the ruling city of the five principle cities. They gave the ruling city the authority to dictate the outcome of the losing city without a lot of bloodshed. Keep in mind the ruling city had control of all their finances, housing, trade, food, etc. Being the champion of the five ruling cities, not only meant that he was the best of the best, but all cities had to submit to Gath. Goliath presented the Philistine’s challenge to the children of Israel in the valley of Elah. Saul and the children of Israel understood that if they took the challenge they would risk losing all that GOD had promise them over one man. Recognize, they were left two choices: ether quietly surrender to his insults and be acknowledged as a nation who did not have the courage to stand up for the integrity of GOD, who is able to do anything; or risk losing to this giant and turn over Saul’s crown and their inheritance to the Philistines.

c) David made his intention public: Now King Saul issues a reward for the one that is able to avenge to the verbal abuse of Goliath. The reward consisted of the following:

1. Great riches

2. Marriage to the king’s daughter

3. His father house is exempt from taxes

David is eager to accept the challenge, although, Eliab (David eldest brother) accuses David of being haughty, but David ask why he should not go forward and turn from his brother and made his intention plain to those who would listen. (Explain)

d) Saul calls David for an interview: Now, the new of what David said reach the ears of King Saul, and Saul order for David to be brought to him. Upon seeing David, Saul did not believe David was worthy of taking the challenge, yet he had to inquire what made David think he was qualify to take this job. My brothers and my sisters, notice that many of us have read the classifieds and after reviewing all jobs opportunities, one job will inspired you to seek employment at that particular establishment. One will notice that the aid states all requirements needed for all qualifying candidates; states it is an equal opportunity employer; and states please bring a resume. Take heed, like David, when you walk in for an interview all employers looks at you to see if you qualified for the position (Explain). Then, the employer tries to discourage you by explaining the job to you (Explain). After failing to discourage you from taking the job, they will ask for your resume and an explanation of your qualifications. Understand, your resume will state your name, address, contact numbers, e-mail address, education, personal information, references, and most of all you experiences.
