Summary: We look at what I have learned as a student and teacher.

WHAT AM I LEARNING? TEACHING?

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr.

TEXT:

John 7:15 And the Jews marvelled saying,

How knoweth this man letters,’having never learned?

Phil. 4:9 Those things which ye have both learned and received and heard and seen in me, DO: and the God of peace shall be with you.

Phil. 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

Heb. 5:8 Though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered...

One year when I was teaching school in Lee County, Virginia, the last day of school, I had the 6th grade class write whatever they wanted to tell me.

One girl started her paper,

"Mr. Hughes you learned me a lot this year."

Well, it appears I didn’t do to well in the English

area.

No one can learn for you, you learn for yourself.

Others teach you.

I ponder, What am I learning? What am I teaching?

I am afraid all I needed to know, I never learned in kindergarten.

I have been to the school of hard knocks,

and I carry many scars from slow learning

and ears slow to hear.

But I have learned a few things. Please ponder these...

What have you learned?

What are you teaching?

I have learned---

that at best life is just temporary.

We pass this way but once.

It is easy to think we have forever.

60% of people have no will,

we live like there will be a tomorrow.

One of these days there will be no tomorrow.

We head toward death at 1440 minutes per day.

To die right, we need to live right.

I have learned---

that nothing is as bad as it first appears.

Walk away from it.

Get a good night’s sleep,

things will look different in the morning.

Haste has caused many tears and suicides.

I have learned---

if you don’t like what you are getting,

change what you are giving.

I have learned--- words can murder.

Ever read this...

I crucified a soul today.

I murdered it with my words.

You see, void now is one testimony.

My tongue did nail to a tree.

I have learned---

that the people that need your love

the most deserve it the least.

Invest love for tomorrow’s sake.

I have learned---

if you don’t like where you are,

you probably won’t like where you are going!

Contentment is a learned behavior,

few discipline their eyes or heart.

I have learned--- life is like a big puzzle.

God gives you only one piece at a time.

God does not always give you a picture of

what the puzzle is going to look like.

The picture develops as you travel the journey.

I have learned---

that blaming others is stupid,

you can’t change others.

But you can change yourself,

if you want to...

I have learned---

the fear of God and His commandments is the source

of real living.

We live in a society that paints the God of LOVE

so large, that God’s LOVE is abused.

Remember you will be held accountable.

Judgment Day is sure.

I have learned--- "THEY SAID" is a mean hearted phrase that hides the jellyfish mentality of cruel people. If you can’t say who said it, then don’t repeat it.

I have learned---

that water takes the path of least resistance and

failure takes the path of least persistence.

Any body can quit.

Why not quit quiting?

I have learned---

it is easier to spread doom and gloom than

it is to make a difference.

We have many spiritual thermometers that measure

the conditions around us.

That is not your calling.

You are called to be a spiritual thermostat,

you can make a difference.

I have learned---

that good comes out of bad.

What seems hopeless and in great despair

can be changed by prayer and love.

We forget that we know all things work together

for the good...

Why are you acting like an aimless orphan?

I have learned---

that death is not the end.

The sun goes down here, but never forget,

it is coming up over there.

The moon on the darkest night is just of reflection

of the bright sun hidden to our eyes.

The darker the night the greater the light.

I have learned---

that there are many fat,

lazy arm chair quarterbacks doing nothing but

talking about the tired, than

exhausted people that are daily in the trenches

with hurting people.

I have learned---

that many search for the burning bush in the desert,

but they overlook that earth is crammed with heaven,

every common bush is aflame with the touch of the

Most High.

There is a problem, only he that sees,

will take off his shoes.
