Summary: Have you ever been at a place in your life when you didn’t know what to do? If not, you will.

What to do when you don’t know what to do

Have you ever been at a place in your life when you didn’t know what to do? If not, you will.

Have you said to yourself, “I don’t know what to do?”

You are at the end of your rope. You will feel that you are in the dark. You will feel confused as to what to do. You are at a fork and don't know which way to go? A situation has come up, an event, a circumstance and you simply do not know what to do!?

What do you do when you don't know what to do. Jeremiah 33:3 God says, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

Underscore the last four words “which thou knowest not.” That means you don’t know what to do. Thou knowest not what to do. You’re at a loss of what to do. You’re drawing a blank. You simply do not know what to do.

What does this verse tell us to do when we don’t know what to do? What does God say?

He says call unto me and I will answer you and show you what to do.

What do you so when you don’t know what to do? You pray. Call on me God says. To call on him is to pray to him.

Someone has said, if in doubt do without; which means when in doubt, do nothing. That’s not true for the believer. If you are in doubt you don’t have to do without. You can pray.

Let me call three things to your attention from this verse.

1. THE PLEA –“CALL UNTO ME”

God, the God of the universe, is inviting us to talk to him. He says, “call me.” We call a lot of people. Do you ever call God? Someone has said this is God’s phone number -- Jeremiah 33:3. Who do you call when you need advice, when you don’t know what to do? God says call me.

We find this all throughout the Bible.

Ps 50:15 God says “call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver you, and you shall praise me.” Are you having trouble and don’t know what to do? God says call on me and I will deliver you.

Ps 91:15 God says, “He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.”

Ps 145:18 says, “The LORD is near unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.”

Isa 55:6 says, “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:” God is not hiding. He’s not on vacation. He’s not asleep. Seek him and you will find him for he is near to all who call on him.

Do you know how close God is to you? He is as close to you as the words in your mouth. Call on him. He will hear.

Jer 29:12 God says, “Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hear you.” God is not deaf. Call on him. He will hear.

God is inviting us to call upon him. He is saying, talk to me. When you don’t know what to do, God says, ask me.

Rom 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

That’s THE PLEA –“CALL UNTO ME”

2. THE PROMISE –“I WILL ANSWER THEE”

Not only does God hear us when we pray, he answers us when we pray.

Someone has said and is so true, “when we don’t pray, we get what we can do; when we pray, we get what God can do.”

There are 3 secrets to answered prayer: 1. PRAY 2. PRAY 3. PRAY

There is only one prayer God cannot and will not answer; the prayer that is not prayed. You have not because you ask not.

In Luke 11:9-10 Jesus says, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one who asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened.”

God answers every prayer that is prayed. He answers them in one of 4 ways.

1. Sometimes God answers DIRECTLY.

Isa 65:24 God says, “And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” God knows what you have need of before we ask. But he still wants us to ask.

Ps 138:3 says “In the day when I cried out, You answered me…” The same day I prayed God delivered.
