Summary: This sermon illustrates how to remain strong in the faith when our faith seems to fail us.

Hebrews 11: 32-40

When Faith Seems to Fail

Let me share some phrases with you.

1. According to your faith, be it unto you.

2. Ask and it will be given unto you.

3. Seek and ye shall find.

4. Knock and the door will be opened unto you.

The bible also says if you pray and believe you will receive what it is you are asking for.

Jesus said: when you pray, pray to the father in my name and anything you ask for in my name will be given unto you.

What do these phrases sound like to you?

What do these phrases seem to be saying?

In my mind they sound like a guarantee!!!

Jesus said it, that’s a promise, I can claim it, and it will always come true.

THERES A PROBLEM THOU……

Have you ever had an occasion when you had faith but you didn’t receive?

Ever ask and it wasn’t given?

Ever sought but you didn’t find?

Ever knock but the door wasn’t opened?

Ever ask in the name of Jesus and it wasn’t given?

Have you ever had an occasion when you really thought you believed but even though you believed you didn’t receive?

What was wrong on that occasion???

Did you fail in your faith?

OR

Did your faith fail you?

Some people believe one of these two reasons has to be true.

But….neither is true!!!!!!!

There is another alternative….

It has nothing to do with you failing in the faith

OR

Your faith failing you.

It could have everything to do with the father knowing what is best.

Read Hebrews 11: 32-40

1. Begins with the Up Side of faith. ( I you have faith, God will bless you)

2. Flip side of faith. (God blesses our faith but sometimes not in the way we think He should) vs. 39 (sometimes we go thru sufferings)

3. Bright side of the flip side. Vs. 35

If God chooses not to get you out the problem and makes you go thru suffering, when you go thru to the other side it will have been worth it all along to have had your faith.

God not always does what we want

BUT

Whatever God dose is best!!

There are times when God will not perform in a way we think he should.

Story of Lazarus (John 11: 34-35)

Lazarus had something better than a healing, he had a resurrection

Times when God doesn’t do what we think He should do but God always knows what he is doing.

Scripture teaches us: If God did all we wanted, we would miss the blessing.

It’s the principal of: Father knows best.

Either God knows what’s best for you

Or

He doesn’t

God is the perfect Father but, he doesn’t always sow hat we want him to do.

REAL FAITH:

Not the ability to demand from God what you want and get it.

It is the ability to receive from God what he gives you and accept it.

Matt. 11: vs 3 (John the Baptist)

In prison. Questioning if Jesus is the messiah.

Jesus tells disciples to tell John the lame walk, the deaf hear, the blind see, the leper is cleansed.

If he can do all that, he can release him from prison if he wanted to.

Vs. 6 (read) means: blessed is the man who isn’t offended if I don’t do all the things he wants me to do.

Why have faith at all:

Live with something to hold on too OR Live without anything to hold onto.

Which had you rather live with???
