When Men Revile You

WHEN MEN REVILE YOU
MAIN TEXT: MATTHEW 5:11
“Blessed are you when men shall revile you and persecute you and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake”.
“Bless them that curse and pray for them which despitefully use you”.
The word ‘revile’ means to abuse, to insult or maltreat. When Christ was here on earth, even as son of God, men abused Him, insulted Him and said all manner of things to Him and about Him. And before He left, He told us ahead of time that what He went through, the insults He got, the persecutions He received from the world that we that are His followers will also receive it; Matt. 10:22. He simply told us the truth of the cross we are to bear if we must be His disciples. This was to get our hearts and minds ready for the worst kind of treatments from the world.
We are not being treated badly by the world because they understand that we are not of them, we do not belong to them, we do not see things and do things the way they do. We do not react or make decisions like them. They do not understand us and our way of life, so they maltreat us, insult us and they revile us. John 15:18-19.
If you have decided to serve Jesus then let us get ready to bear His cross as well. Also make up your mind to be reviled and treated as “a nobody”. It could be where you live, work, school or do business.
When men revile us, do not revenge.
