Summary: Too many turn away from God before he is finished giving them what they need to be of full service.

Cold dead services are the direct results of a self-satisfied religion that knows nothing about the mighty miracle working power and presence of the Holy Spirit in exalting the Lord Jesus Christ.

Amos 6:1Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

2Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

3Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;

(1) Loss of consciousness of sin.

Rev.2:4Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

5Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Friendship of the world foe to Christ

Favorable walk with the enemy of the Church

Further away from the old paths by Choice

(2) Lack of courage to stand

Convictions without courage Disastrous

Commitment without considerations Dangerous

Compliance with the crowd Damaging

(3)Love of common standards

Romans 12:1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

3For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Love not the sinful world system

Look not to the shameful style

Live not the same as the selfish world suggests

(4) Left church services

Hebrews 10:25Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Dropped out for Sunday’s pleasure

Delayed prayer and Bible study missed another Sunday

Drifted further away until its difficult to get back.

(5) Listen to the counsel of sinners

Psalms 1:1Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Created doubt and suspicion about the church

Coldness toward the saints

Critical spirit of all the work of God

(6) Leads the congregation into back-sliding

Rev.2:4Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

No vision of the lost world Going to Hell

No victory over the devil and sin

No visitation to win sinners to Christ

(7) Lord-ship of Christ shirked

Rev.3:15I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

16So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

17Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

18I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

Denied him of his rightful place

Dead formal services

Do something about it
