About Greg
  • Education: I completed my B.A. in Biblical Languages at Harding in 1980 and attended Harding Graduated School for a year. Over the next 20 years I audited courses from Harding, Abilene, and Lipscomb. Finally, received an M.A. and later an M.Div. from Lipscomb University in Nashville.
  • Experience: Our family moved to northern New Hampshire to work with a church planting in Lancaster. I was 24 and my wife and I had an 18 month old baby girl. We spent 17 years in New Hampshire where I served in two congregations. In 1998 we moved to Signal Mountain where I serve as preacher today.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: My prayer is that God will speak to your heart and draw you closer to him through or inspite of this lesson
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: Preaching on the cross, discovering Jesus, leadership training, expository study of the books of the Bible.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: Ask everyone to take four index cards and write one of the most important things to them on each card. Then, one by one, ask them to take the card with the least important thing and wad it up and throw it on the floor. When there is only one card left say this: God took all the important things to him and did what we just did. He had only two cards left. One had the name of Jesus, His Son. The other had your name. Which did God sacrifice and which did He save? God loves you!
  • Family: My Wife Jenny and I met at Harding University and were married in 1978. We have three children, Jen, Tim, and Rachel, who are a gift from the Lord.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My mom is my biggest fan.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: Jenny loves me and says she loves my preaching, but love covers a multitude of sins.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Look to Jesus, listen to Jesus, learn from Jesus, live for Jesus, love like Jesus.
  • Books that have had an impact: Stott’s the Cross of Christ, Fudge’s The Fire that Consumes, Graham’s Just As I Am, Biographies of George Muller, Mother Theresa, Lincoln, and Hudson Taylor. Covey’s Seven Habbits of Highly Effective People, Warren’s Purpose Driven Church.
  • Hobbies: I love evangelistic activities with the church. Inner City work with kids, camping, hiking, playing guitar, singing, swimming, reading and writing.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Look to Jesus, listen to Jesus, learn from Jesus, live for Jesus, love like Jesus.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: I was new at preaching. We happened to have a full house that particular Sunday. There were several visiting preachers and I was nervous. As I finished saying the prayer before the offering I closed with these words: In Jesus name we pay, amen.
  • What I want on my tombstone: Finised the Course, Fought the Good Fight, Kept the Faith.
