I’ve heard a story once of a little boy who brought his broken toy to the altar one Sunday morning. He asked God to fix it for him. God said He would fix the toy. No problem. So the kid became real excited that God was going to fix it, and he got up with his toy and went home. Every morning of that week the boy woke up excited to see if his toy had been fixed as God said, but to his disappointment, the toy was still broken. So the next Sunday the boy brought his toy right back to the altar and he asked God, “Why didn’t you fix my toy this week? You told me you would.” God simply replied, “You didn’t leave it at the altar.” Too, many times we don’t leave our sins at the altar. We don’t trust God to take it completely away to fix it.
