Growing Up Too Fast Youth are maturing at an accelerated pace. Preschoolers are playing with toys that would have been considered suitable for an 11-year-old a decade ago. A Sesame Street Parents survey finds moms with kids under 12 are more afraid of exposing kids to pop media-dictated pop-culture cues than the nightly news. They are slowing down the clock by staving off until adolescence activities their moms allowed at a much younger age. But they are discussing drugs and alcohol with kids at a median age of 6.5 and inappropriate touching before age 5. (Brandweek 9/11/00)
