About Larry
  • Education: B.A. Speech Communications M.Div Luther Rice Seminary Doctorate of Divinity - University of Mobile (Conferred) Doctorate of Letters - California Graduate School of Theology
  • Experience: Pastor: FBC - Chickasha, Oklahoma FBC - Merritt Island, Florida Dauphin Way Baptist Church - Mobile, Alabama FBC - Fort Lauderdale, Florida
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Through 30 years of ministry I have benefited greatly from reading the sermons written by those I precieved were outstanding men of God and great communicators of the Gospel. I have always maintained that I am NOT a theologian but I do have a great passion for bringing the Truth to my generation with an understanding that only HIS word will last and it is His word, not mine that is needed the most. Feel free to use any part of the message if it will also further that goal in your ministry.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: "Looking to Jesus" - Hebrews 12:1-2
  • Family: Spouse: Married to Cynthia S.Thompson on August 18, 1972 Two Daughters: Ami Taylor Thompson - Born: November 14, 1976 Jennifer Gail Thompson - Born: July 25, 1979
  • What my parents think of my sermons: When people make comments to my parents about how "great" a sermon their son preached... My father appreciates it. My mother BELIEVES it.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: My partner, my lover and my best friend is also the most cherished critic. However, Cynthia knows to wait at least a day before offering extensive criticism of the Sunday message! She is also my greatest encourager and the only person, other than the Spirit that is totally consistent and trustworthy in her evaluation.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Memorize your sermon. Be in control of your notes instead of your notes being in control of you. and... Live your life so that no one knows your a pastor...but they would not be surprised were they to find out.
  • Books that have had an impact: The Frog in the Kettle A Passion for Prayer Knight in Shining Armor Real Family Values We Still Do
  • Hobbies: Travel with my wife Collector of sports memorabila
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: This ministry is not about me...it’s all about Him. "He must increase and I must decrease."
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: I made reference to the "uncircumcized Philistine women..."
  • What I want on my tombstone: He invested his life for the legacy...not the resume
