Wizard Appeal 84% of U.S. teens have read or watched Harry Potter. So have 77% of all church-going and born again Christian teens. Just 4% say they’ve encountered any teaching or discussions in a church about the spiritual themes embedded in the wizardry legend. Among born again teens it’s 13%. The vast majority say they didn’t find much spiritual stimulation but enjoyed the story, yet 12% (3 million teens) say the stories increased their interest in witchcraft. David Kinnaman of Barna Research says, “Young people are avidly consuming contemporary pop legends. Adults can guide them in knowing how to interpret that information and to respond in a Christ-like manner.” (Barna Update 5/1/06)
