Summary: Paul shares the good news and God wants us to share he Good News as well.

1 Thessalonians 2:1-8 Share the Good News

1. Some of the folks believed Paul had deceived others •

• Some Believed Paul Had Impure Motives Paul writes 3 For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives, nor are we trying to trick you.

• Some believed Paul preached to please others “. 4 On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.

• Some felt Paul was out for material gain • “Paul states I don’t, wear nor a cloak for covetousness). No we worked day and night so we would not be a burden to you

• Some folks in Thessalonica believed “Paul only wants personal glory” (1 Thessalonians 2:6, Paul says nor did we seek glory from men).

• Some felt “Paul is something of a dictator” (1 Thessalonians 2:7 we were gentle among you). even though as apostles of Christ we could have asserted our authority. 7 Instead, we were like young children among you. Just as a nursing mother cares for her children, 8 so we cared for you.

2. The Gospel is the “good news” because it contains the exceedingly wonderful message of God’s redemption of sinful humanity through the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. The gospel is the heart, the central core of Christian preaching.

The English noun gospel comes from the Anglo-Saxon term godspell, meaning “glad tidings.” It is translated from the Greek evangelion, which means “good message.”

3. Because Paul cares for you, he shares with us the Gospel (that’s what Paul is saying to the church at Thessalonica)

• If you care you share “So deeply do we care for you that we are determined to share with you

• Paul believes if you care you will share the Gospel (Good News) Matthew 1:21 It happened at Jesus birth

• 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

• The Disciples were encouraged to Share Jesus said, “Go make disciples baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the son and of the holy Spirit. The Good News is Jesus saves

• If we are not sharing with others, Do we really care about the souls of others? If we do we share the Good News. The apostle says the “gospel of God.” He also says, “our own selves.” What does that mean? Does the church you serve “care” for others? In what ways does it share for others?

4. Because Paul Cares He treats the people like a Nursing Mother vs 6 Just as a nursing mother cares for her children, 8 so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.

• Paul wants to give something, not take something from them that’s what a mother does

• Christian Mother Loves the Lord, A Christian Mother teaches her children about God,

• Christian Mother gives she gives Prayer, Christian Mother give encouragement, Christian mother provides a safe haven, Jesus was like Mother “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.

• Paul’s preaching was effective because he gave not only the Gospel, but himself as well

5. Why do we share the Good News

• The Gospel is the Pearl of Great price In the parable of the Pearl 46When he found the pearl itwas of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

• The Gospel is a Treasure Hidden in a field 44"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

• The Gospel was desired of prophets, Kings and Men. 17For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

• The Gospel is Life and immortality brought to light (, 10but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 11And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher. 12That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day.
