Summary: “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

2 Kings 6:14-23 (NKJV)

You’re not Alone

February 19, 2023

Intro: In chapter 2 God sends a chariot of fire with horses of fire to take up Elijah so he would not see death and Elisha witnessed his teacher Elijah being taken up by a whirlwind into heaven. So Elisha pics up his masters coat and puts it on and now the student has become the master! When all the other students of Elijah saw Elisha they said “The spirit of Elijah now rests on Elisha” and they submitted themselves to his authority. Today we learn of a conflict between Israel and Syria. The bible says that the king of Syria is making war against the king of Israel and God is showing up the battlefield. The children of God did not start this fight, but God is going to end it! This lesson is about perspective! What is the proper response to the enemy? How do we glorify our God as we deal with our enemies? ILLS: A shoe manufacturer who decided to open the Congo market of Central Africa, sent two salesmen to the undeveloped territory. One salesman sent word back: "Prospect here nil. No one wears shoes." The other salesman reported enthusiastically, "Market potential terrific! Everyone is barefooted." It’s all about prospective!

The Secret – The bible says that the prophet Elisha tells the king of Israel the words the king of Syria speaks in the privacy his home (v12). How does he know what the enemy is saying? God has miraculously revealed the Elisha what the enemy is planning to do! Hebrews 4:13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. You are here to worship today because God has revealed Himself to you! If God does not reveal Himself to you, you will not know God! You did not come to God on your own! Jesus said, “If I be lifted up, I’ll draw all men unto me.” Then He said, “No one comes to the Father except through Me!” Colossians 1:26 tells us about the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints… which is Christ in you, the hope of glory!

The Sight – The servant could only see the enemy until Elisha prayed that his eyes might be opened and then he saw chariots of fire (v17) “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Ephesians 6:12 says For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of [a]the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Elisha knew this but his servant did not. And so, when the servant looked out and saw that an army had surrounded the town, his heart was troubled and he cried out to Elisha, “What shall we do?” What were Elisha and his servant supposed to do? Nothing! Sometimes we must stand still and wait for God to work! ILLS: Moses in Exodus 14 God said, "...Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord...the Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace." The Psalmist He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20 says, “Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.” There was nothing to be done, not even call for help since God had already sent help. And so when Elisha prayed, he prayed for his servant’s eyes to be opened to see the help God had sent. God answered that prayer and allowed Elisha’s servant to see fiery horses and chariots - an army of angels that was protecting them. The Psalmist prayed 119:18, “Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous Things from Your law.” You are not alone! - Romans 8:31 says, “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?”

• We are so blinded by our circumstances!

• We are so blinded by our adversities!

• We are so blinded by our own narrow vision of God!

• If God would just open our eyes we would see past the problem and see the solution! (The enemy was surrounded).
