A HAPPY TRADITION?

In a 2003 movie called "Pieces of April" a tatooed and rebellious daughter named April invites her disfunctional family to a Thanksgiving meal, hoping to heal old wounds and recreate a sense of family ritual.

While they are driving to April’s house, her mom and sister take to bad-mouthing April while Dad tries to defend her.

Later, April’s oven breaks, and the tension only gets worse.

There is a 1995 movie called "Home For the Holidays" that is not much better. It’s basically 36 hours of bickering and reconciling over a Thanksgiving dinner.

Does this all sound familiar to you? Maybe so, maybe not.

According to writer Lisa Marshall, "Judging by Thanksgiving’s portrayal on film, you might assume the holiday is one to be dreaded, not anticipated, by families."
