The very first thing that I noticed about our text is the doubling of Simon’s name in Jesus’ statement, “Simon, Simon”.

The doubling of words almost sounds like people when they stutter. Often people who stutter repeat their words. I love to hear people who stutter. I do not mean that in a derogatory way, I REALLY ENJOY HEARING PEOPLE TALK WHO STUTTER. Illus: A really huge muscular guy with a bad stutter goes ...read more

Why Jesus must asked Peter 3 times, just for the same question. It may not make sense to some of us...

Jesus sees not merely what we are, but what we can be. Peter was transformed from an unstable, weak, and impetuous man to a man who was rock solid for Christ.

Simon The Stone Text: John 1: 41-42 Intro: Simon Peter is one of my favorite characters in the Bible. He fills its pages with life and energy. Though he was often reckless and impetuous, he was always sincere. Simon was a man who was passionate about everything he did. Later in ...read more

Following the Leader isn’t always quick or easy

Simon was busier than he should have been. He had an important dinner coming up and was running short of time as he made the preparations. Sitting arrangements, making sure there was enough food, servants and the like all taxed him to the nth degree. He was going to have this preacher/miracle ...read more

This is a sermon that deals with how close someone can come to accepting Christ but still be lost.

Simon Says! I assume everyone here at one time or another has played the game Simons say. One person calls out the commands but unless you add the phrase, “Simon Says” to it, you are not to do it. It was the jumping on one foot that always got me. My grandbabies love to play it with me. Today we ...read more

While reading this story we are all focused on what the woman does. It is Simon however on whom I would like to put the spotlight: the reality is that we are like the Pharisee, and not like the woman!

Menno Simons was a contemporary with Martin Luther, who seems to have taken all the credit for the reformation. But where Martin Luther failed in his reformation, Menno Simons didn’t.
