The term "Stand Down" has been used recently in light of the Benghazi attack, it is a military term meaning a cessation of offensive actions; a cease fire; a truce. Are we guilty of "Standing Down" concerning the sins that are prevalent in our society?

When reporting on current events such as "fast and furious" and the Benghazi attack on our American Embassy, reporters are using the term "Stand Down" when asking who gave the orders to do nothing to help those in peril. Stand Down is a military term meaning, (a) A suspension or relaxation from an ...read more

(A)Where Did The First Christmas Message Come From? Contrary to the opinion of some people, the First Christmas message was not proclaimed by the pope at the Vatican, nor did it originate in Oklahoma, or Springfield, Mo. Psalms 139:17 tells us, "How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them." I list several ways in which God thinks about us.

As we enter into the thanksgiving season I want to take time to thank Our Heavenly Father for all He does. Life is too short to list all the blessings He has bestowed upon me.In fact, I don’t have enough ink or paper to write them all down. So I just want to share why I am thankful that God thinks ...read more

Have you ever wondered what you would want to say to your family or your loved ones if you knew the time of death were near. This message gives us a great example of what would be important to say to our loved ones.

Many times in life,I have been called to the bedside of the dying to comfort the grieving family that is soon to be left behind. I recall times when family members have said, "I wish I had told them how much I loved them". I also remember times when sons and daughters stated, "I never heard dad ...read more

Among the sins of Sodom, we find the sin of doing nothing. The question Pharoah asked in our text is a good question for us today? We answer the question is it a sin to do nothing.

I once heard Granny Clampett say this about a man named Leif Crick, "he’s the only one I know who can get up in the morning with nothing to do, and at the end of the day he is only half done." In (Matthew 29:3, we find the word idle used, in the Greek it is rendered as a man without work. Friends, ...read more

This particular Psalm has been called the "Great Hallelujah Psalm" It is an invitation for all to become active in the praise of God. Let’s examine some of the benefits of corporate praise.

The writer of this Psalm used the phrase "Praise Him" nine times, we also find the word "Praise" used an additional four times in this writing. There must be some significant or special reason for the instruction to praise to be given. Is it possible that God wants praise to be not only a personal ...read more

Have you noticed many of God’s people walking around with faces longer than a hoe-handle? People who praise God, don’t sing the blues.

This Psalm was probably composed following the return from captivity in Babylon. Perhaps those returning had it in their hearts to seek vengeance, or maybe they spent too much time dwelling on all the bad things that had happened to them. But God moved upon the writer of this Psalm to tell them to ...read more

A preacher friend of mine once told me, that he had a hard time finding something to preach about. We take a look at the theme of effective preaching.

Abraham Licoln once said, "I like to watch a preacher who looks like he is fighting off a swarm of bee’s as he preaches." There are varying styles of preaching, some exciting, some very powerful. Yet, sad but true, many are boring. One guy described some preachers as being, "drier than cracker ...read more

The fact that the church needs a foundation can not be disputed. Let’s take a look at the way the foundation is laid as well as the purpose and types of stone used.

Psalms 118:22, "The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the Corner." Whether as members of the church or government we have a responsibility to take care of the poor. Let’s look at what God’s Word has to say about those who neglect or oppress the poor.

The rich continue to get richer and the poor get poorer. I have no problem with the rich who work for their wealth, but the problem lies with those who gain wealth at the expense of the poor. In our state for instance, our governor scaled back the $5 billion medicaid program for the poor. This ...read more

What is holiness? The word HOLY used here means to be or to keep oneself pure or to sanctify yourself wholly.Let us look at four statements here in this verse that help define personal holiness.

What exactly does it mean to be HOLY? I think I can better answer that question if I know what being Holy is not. For instance, if you shout all over the church while tripping over your tongue, That is not Holy. If you withhold your tithe to starve the pastor out, That is not Holy. If you ...read more

Five times in the Book of Isaiah we read, "the hand of the Lord is stretched out still." (Is.5:25,9:12, 9:17,9:21,&10:4). I want to just list a few of the distinguishing powers that are characteristic of the Hand of our God. (A) His hand is so vast that the mighty oceans lie in the hollow of ...read more

Everything God does has a purpose. When He gave Moses instruction on the construction of the altar there was a divine purpose in the methods and materials.

Leprosy is a picture of the sinful heart, it is said that some of the Jewish Rabbi’s translated the words "Unclean, Unclean" as, "Avoid, Avoid." We look at the parallel of leprosy and sin.

Leprosy It’s Origins: (A) Leprosy would start out small in it’s beginning. It would lie concealed in the blood where human eye could not see it. There may be no visible signs or symptoms. Isn’t that also like sin, which lies dormant in our lives until it begins to bear it’s ugly fruit. Chapter ...read more
